Listening is a crucial key skill required in coaching. Recently, I have noticed there may be feelings of caution, vulnerability and fear when people reveal that they are not as confident as they want to be. If you take the sentiment of change; you will know that in order for things to progress in life, there has to be that moment of reality when you recognise where you are and the brutal facts that change may need to happen to move you to where you want to be.
I have always been very fortunate in knowing that I possess a unique amount of confidence which provides me with some strong foundations when I approach raw basics that many struggle with on a daily basis. An interesting example of this would be when I coach males. We begin by talking about what is going well; what could be better in their personal or business lives and start to understand some of the root causes. Often, the conversation will revolve back to their relationships with a certain individual; whether this be a boyfriend or girlfriend or a work colleague. The underlying factors, pressures and expectations surrounding these can add a tremendous volume of pressure to other areas of their life leading them procrastinate, feel overwhelmed and be suffering in silence all due to a lack of confidence and not facing into this. The benefit of coaching means we explore these facts, understand what is going on and set actions in place to make changes. The process becomes fluid, transparent and empowering as the problems are broken down into manageable steps.
In order to move forward, it is fundamental to know where you are, understand where you want to be and surround yourself with the right network to get you there quicker. It is crucial to confidently face into those feelings of fear that are contributing towards any procrastination and start feeling empowered to make changes to begin living life on your terms. Being confident is paramount in these steps and knowing your true self, how you work and most importantly trusting yourself to make the right steps to move forward.
