THE SUNDAY NIGHT BLUES ARE A REAL THING.

Jun 26, 2022

Many people fail to realise the importance of everything around our business days that affects our overall performance in our business.

If you want to be successful in running your own business you have to be focussed on being 10/10 and on top of your game.

Why would anyone invest time, money and energy into you if you didn’t? Would you?

A 2015 Monster survey found that 76% of people get bummed out on Sunday night.
Whilst this data may be “old”, I did some research myself recently asking friends, family and client what they do on Sunday evenings to feel ready for the week ahead and ready to go! I believe this figure may even be a higher figure in 2022!

However, Sunday can still be a fun day. You've just got to have the right mindset and commit to something, whether it be getting tasks done, relaxing, or spending time with your loved ones.

Here are 8 things I noticed that successful people do on their Sunday evenings:

They spend quality time with their families, friends, and significant others.
Successful people know their weeks will be jammed and that they are likely to be unavailable, so they make the most of their Sunday nights by spending time with their loved ones.

They plan something fun.
This could be a brunch, a long walk, lunch out or simply a movie night. Most of us want more time, to do things that makes us feel good like spending time with friends and family to make memories. It is the stuff we work hard for.

They reflect, journal, organise and plan for the week ahead.
Some successful people like to look at their calendars on Sunday night and set goals and deadlines for the coming week. Some find benefit in reflecting on the previous week and asking what went well? What could the improve on for this week ahead? The trick is to do this without stressing yourself out. If you're dreading Monday, writing down your thoughts on a piece of paper can help you get to the bottom of what's bugging you, or give you the perspective that things aren't so bad after all. It is a catharsis thing to do.

They exercise.
Take a walk, play a game of tennis, or go to a class at the gym. It is a great way to feel good by letting those endorphins give you that burst of energy to be in the right space for the week ahead… start with the end in mind!

They eat something healthy.
It might be tempting to wind down with a couple of glasses of your favourite Cabernet, but remember alcohol is a depressant that will leave you feeling less energised in the morning. Instead, make a healthy meal and enjoy with some herbal tea.

They read.
Most successful people read every night before bed, so Sunday-night reading is part of their routines. They also use this time to catch up on reading that has been neglected.

They unplug and relax.
Truly successful people do anything but work right before bed, especially on Sunday night. They don't obsessively check their email, and they try not to dwell on work-related issues because they aware of controlling what they can control. It is a can’t afford not to when it comes to taking time to recharge your mind and body.

They plan out their sleep.
This may sound a little bizarre but in the last year I have really focused on ensuring I at least get 7 sleep hours a night. It is our time when we rest, heal and recover. If you are struggling in this area, try to create a space of calm in your bedroom where you have a little breeze, maybe a candle/ diffuser and you have minimal if any access to your digital devices. I do most of these but a real life changer has been my use of the Calm app every night. This was one of the best investments I made last year.

Monday will come regardless of how you feel, so try to engage in positive thinking and reflect on positive experiences before ending your weekend.
